Smyrna to become a 'no bin venue'
In order to comply with the government's new regulations on recycling, from 1st January 2025, we will be removing all rubbish bins from most areas in Smyrna.
As well as enabling Taff Rocks, who manage and care for Smyrna, to meet these regulations, this new approach will help us save valuable funds which can be used to meet our charitable aims and objectives.
As visitors, guests and hirers of Smyrna, we ask for your support as we make this change. Therefore, we kindly ask that you please take any rubbish, that you bring to the venue, away with you and dispose of it properly.
We also kindly ask that you take away any recyclable materials that you produce and recycle that responsibly.
Toilets:
- The nappy and sanitary bins in the toilets will remain as this will help prevent unnecessary expenditure on unblocking toilets should someone attempt to dispose of these items down the toilet.
- Please do not use these bins for materials that we are asking you to take away and dispose of or recycle responsibly.
- The waste paper bins provided in the toilets are for toilet roll inserts, which we will recyle.
- Our toilets have difficulties coping with above average deposits of toilet tissue, therefore we ask that you use the hand dryers to dry your hands! This will help prevent unnecessary expenditure on unblocking toilets.
- The toilets occassionally have issues coping with larger standard 'deposits'. Therefore, we ask that you flush regularly and use courtesy flushes to ensure everything is flushed away.
Kitchen:
-
We provide biodegradable bags in the ‘organics’ bin. We kindly ask that, where possible, you change this bag after you have used it, take it away with you and dispose of it in your own organic waste recycling.
Art-based projects:
- If you plan to run your own art-based project, please come prepared with appropriate equipment and resources to dispose of waste that should not be flushed down the sinks or toilets.
- Any non-recyclable items produced in the production of a Taff Rocks run art-based project, will be collected and disposed of by Taff Rocks facilitators. This includes the biodegradable tissue and wipes.
We thank you in advance for your support and we look forward to seeing you at Smyrna soon.
